THE BIG NIGHT IN: CUSTOM AR SNAPCHAT LENS
Amid the Covid-19 lockdown, the BBC decided to create a special evening of television entertainment to help raise money both through Comic Relief and Children In Need. It would be called The Big Night In. Besides the show itself, the show’s producers were looking for other ways to engage the nation and spread the word. This is where we got involved.
We created a custom filter in Snapchat’s Lens Studio based on the event logo. We gave it a facepaint look and feel, and applied to both front and back cameras on mobile phones. This allowed the audience watching at home to take selfies and also take images of other family members. The images (and the lens) could be shared on social media platforms.
In total The Big Night In helped raise over £70 million for good causes. The Snapchat Lens was used in thousands of UK households and the images subsequently shared across Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
